Customer Review: The photography lures you, action holds you.
I can not speak for other versions for this is the one I saw. As you can see from the front cover that this film has been digitally remastered under the supervision of Leni Riefenstahl.

By now watching the first tape, "Festival of the nation" spoiled you. Again this film starts out with the ideal and surrounded by Leni's signature clouds. List is leading you to "field hockey, soccer bicycling, equestrian, aquatic and gymnastic events. Highlights are the Pentathlon and the Decathlon." Remember that some countries were still using horses in the military.

It may be unique reasons that brought you to this point such as Leni or photography, or interest in history, or, or, or. But once the action starts you feel that you are there and get lost in the "who will win what and how. " Even being aware of the outcome does not prepare you to "not bite your nails" as you watch each athlete barley besting the next until it is over too soon. I noticed that instead of placing medals over the winners, they used laurel wreaths.

Any way you cut it, this movie is worth watching.

My Stepmother Is an Alien The title pretty much says it all, folks: A beauteous E.T. cozies up to an eccentric scientist (a disarmingly straight Dan Ackroyd) in an attempt to save her dying planet and falls in love in the process. Much wackiness ensues. Art it ain't, but this likably lightweight film does deliver the laughs, with assured leading performances (for once, Kim Basinger's formica loveliness is utilized as an effective comedic asset), a surprisingly bawdy sense of humor, and a riotous supporting turn by a then dewy-fresh Jon Lovitz. Customer Review: Excellent Movie...A great laugh
I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys good comedy and loves to laugh out loud. Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basigner and Alison Hannigan star in My Step Mother is an Alien.

I remember seeing this movie at the cinema when I was 13 years old...now being in my early 30's I really enjoyed seeing it again.

I am so glad that amazon brought this movie out on DVD. Dan Aykroyd is a comic genius and Kim Basigner just shines in this role as celeste.

Darrin's Dance Grooves Customer Review: Not as bad as you think
I'm not sure what the previous viewer was seeing, but here's the breakdown for Darrin's routines:

* [optionally] Show routine at full speed, so you get hyped.
* Break it down, 8 counts at a time
-- repeat each 8-count once before moving to the next
* Run the whole routine slowly, as a series of 8-counts
* Run the whole routine at full speed, with music

There isn't a lot of technical commentary (especially on how to make the hip-hop look authentic), most likely because this isn't necessarily hip-hop dancing. It's a faithful reproduction of the dancing from those music videos you saw, taught by the choreographer himself. There's pretty much just one camera angle during instruction, which has you facing the instructor, but the moves are simple enough (and Darrin makes helpful comments) that you should be able to tell what's going on without too much trouble.

If you wanted to learn Britney's, N'Sync's, or Jordan Knight's dance numbers, the latter of which is fairly long, then this is right up your alley. The DVD includes several interviews with Darrin, and there are also some bonus routines that are fairly easy to learn. Although the featured music videos are somewhat dated now, this is a solid purchase for under $10.
Customer Review: dissappointed.
I have taken a few modern dance classes but I am not experienced at all, so I wanted to get this hip hop dance DVD to learn some moves and maybe even use it as a exercise DVD. I read about 20 reviews and most of the reviews were negative toned but still their was a glimpse of hope that it would be okey. Then I recieved the DVD and I was very DISSAPPOINTED. As the other reviewers warned me about how the entire DVD only show cased how great Darrin was and name drop the whole DVD, it wasn't that bad ...but it is true. You never really see the whole movement and the camera angles are always half body shots so you never really see what they are doing.
Then when he does fo a new dance routine he does it quickly once. Then he proceeds to say what the moves are again but only speaks about them without any body movement so you are totally lost. Then he does it again in regular dance speed with his annoying 1234567..8! counts that dosn't even follow the movements. Truely you are better off getting the Music video to Britney or whoever Darrin choreographed for and try to imitate those moves on the music video.
This DVD is terrible and I would't reccommend even a friend to borrow it. It is a waste of time. I am sure Darrin is a great Dancer but who ever helped him to make this DVD should of been fired. He should of got counseling in making this DVD from a aerobics director then I am sure it would of been great. Sorry guys, but you should pass on this DVD, unless you like to waste money.
